To buy or to build? We pondered this for a long time and eventually decided to give building a go.
Our plan is to use Plantation Homes to build our new home, a Sahara Q2, in the bayside suburbs of Brisbane.
Land is registered, finishes selected, plans completed and contracts are signed so now we are just waiting on Brisbane council to give us the big tick.
Council has promised our plans will be approved this week? I have little faith that this will happen as we have been led to believe the same thing for the past 3 weeks :-( It has been 7 weeks in council so far.
Oh well we will wait and see what happens. Fingers crossed.
Just wanted to set up this blog to share our experience of building with Plantation Homes

ReplyDeleteHi Monisha
DeleteWe made the garage 1m wider so that I could get a roller door into the back yard. And we closed off the ensuite opening with a door. Otherwise it was pretty stock standard.
Generally we are happy but if i had my time again i would probably reconsider the following:
I probably would have upgraded the appliances. The technika ones they provided are pretty poor quality and will need to be replaced in the not too distant future. Also i would have kept a closer eye on the painting. They thinned down the paint so they could spray the walls. Unfortunately they went too far and destroyed the integrity of the paint. Now if you try to wipe marks of the wall it leaves worse marks from cleaning. I might have specified that i wanted paint applied by roller. Unfortunately i didnt pick this up earlier so am now in the process of progressively repainting each room :-(
In terms of layout I would say that i wish the living room was just a little bit bigger maybe and extra metre or so. Also the bathrooms are pretty tight considering the size of the house.
I question whether the theatre room and study at the front of the house could have been used more effectively as we dont really use these space as much as I had originally anticipated. Maybe I would have closed in the study and somehow had a proper bathroom downstairs to use as a separate guest quarters.
These are just my thoughts - each to their own. Hopefully it helps though,
Good luck with your build it is an exciting process
