Post Christmas Activity - Joinery and tiles

We got back from holidays yesterday so we were eager to head out to the house today and see what had happened during plantations last week before Xmas shutdown.

We were resigned to the fact that we would probably only be able to peer through the windows as the place would most likely be locked up.

To our surprise there were a couple of tradies working on site (filling the gaps to the architraves and skirting's) so we were able to get in and have a good look around.

The joinery is in and tiling is at about 40% they still have to do the front columns and the walls in the bathrooms. They also need to do all the grouting.

Very happy with our kitchen selections The dark cupboards are in Laminex 'licorice linea' in silk finish (this is glossy but its a bit dirty at the moment so you don't get the full effect) the lighter colour cupboards are Laminex 'paperbark'.

Stairs and tiles

Met with the tiler on site today to make sure they had the correct tiles. All the tiling should be finished prior to Christmas.

Have had some 'selection issues' with the kitchen cabinets which have now been resolved but that has delayed the cabinets going in this week. Fingers crossed for next week.

We now have some stairs. Otherwise, not too much else has happened since our last visit.

The bottom flight will be stained hardwood (the treads currently have MDF protection)
Should look a bit like this

Top flight will be carpeted

Off on holidays from tomorrow so will have to wait and see what the new year brings. If we don't see you beforehand Merry Christmas!

Officially 'LOCKED OUT!'

Today we have been officially locked out. It is great to reach another milestone but it is also a little sad that we wont be able to see what is happening day to day anymore :-(

I met with the site manager (Kim) this morning at the house and the carpenters where on site working - they are going to get the doors, skirting's and architraves fixed this week. They should also have the stairs in.

Kim is hoping to have our joinery i.e. kitchen, vanities etc delivered and installed this week. The tiling should also be completed prior to the Christmas shutdown!

The progress so far has been unbelievable - well beyond our expectations (especially considering how much rain we've had). Hopefully things will continue this well into 2011.

As you can see the scaffold is down so we get a better view of the house.

So...... heres where we are at:
  • Cladding and eaves linings are done
  • Gyprock has been set and sanded
  • The bagging had been done to the side and rear brickwork (the front brickwork is yet to be done, this will be done in full render)
  • Eaves and bagged brickwork have been painted
  • The painters have also started on the upper level cladding (they were ot there working on a Saturday morning - pretty impressive!)

Cladding progress 2

Finally we have had two days in a row without rain!

This is good news as there has been even more progress with the cladding. Most of the eaves and walls have been done to the front and sides and there is only a little left to be done over the roof out the back.

The plasterers were still on site when we got there this evening so we left them alone. I did however stick my head inside and they have sanded back all the joints and installed the cornices. They were still there when we left at 7pm - must be under pressure to get things done before Christmas shutdown.

Cladding progress

I checked in with Plantation today and they have confirmed that they will have completed the 'enclosed' stage by this time next week! I have organised a walkthrough with the site supervisor for next Tuesday so hopefully he will be able to give me some more details of what is to come.

We are very pleased with the progress we have had so far! The last couple of days has seen more cladding and eaves linings installed. Most of the downpipes have also been installed.

I suspect if it hadn't been raining so much we might have had some render done as well (the neighbours was done almost immediately after the bricks were finished + the scaffolding is up). Might have to wait until next year for this one given the forecast for December.

They have boxed out the upper floor which cantilevers over the garage with blueboard.

The plasterers have also been through and set the joints in the gyprock

Bricking finished, Linings started

Despite the miserable weather this week there has been a good amount of progress. They have put some scaffold back up and finished off the brickwork. They have also made a start on the external cladding and eaves linings

We also have the gyprock sheeting installed. We are quite happy with the size and feeling of the rooms plus it is nice and light inside even on what was a dreary day.

I suspect we will be locked out soon just in time for Plantation to hit us with the big progress claim prior to the xmas shutdown period.
